Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween everyone...this year JT is old enough to actually kinda go trick or treating, so Scott and Sarah bought him the cutest little pumpkin costume to wear. He liked it when he tried it on a few days before Halloween, but when he went to put it on that day, well, let's just say he had a small meltdown...not to worry, he eventually did put it on and they took him to his G.G. Vanderpool's house and to his Nana and Papa's house , and then back home where Melissa's church was passing out candy, hot cocoa, and donuts. He walked around outside with all the kids, and then it was off to bed. He had a fun time and he even got to eat a piece of candy!

Happy Birthday Scott!

Just wanted to send happy birthday wishes to Scott, who turns 27 today!
We don't have a birthday picture because he isn't all that camera friendly!
Also, we don't have the traditional Happy Birthday sign, because JT was sick.
In any case, HAPPY BIRTHDAY SCOTT, have a great one!!!

JT's 1st haircut!

Today Scott and Sarah decided that it was time for JT to have his first haircut! JT has big curls on the back of his head an they are hard to control, and get tangles easily. So, off to the barbers they went. They went to a barber shop owned by the dad of a buddy of Scott's back from little league days..in fact the guy was once Scott's coach. Anyway, JT sat on Sarah's lap and got his haircut, he didn't seem to mind it at all. Scott taped the whole thing and JT loved watching later on that afternoon. Now that they cut off all his curls he looks like a little boy, not a baby anymore!!

Big boy haircut with no curls!!

The Spaghetti-o incident!

Sarah bought JT some Spaghetti-o's to see if he liked them as much as she does. Well, he seemed to like them and he wanted to feed himself, so she let him do it and it was going great and so she decided to go and get a bath ready for him since he needed one and Auntie Mel came and supervised the end of dinnertime. Everything was just fine he was a little messy, but that's to be expected, then all in one second he was crying, screaming...he had poured the bowl on his head and it was running down his face and into his eyes...Auntie Mel snapped a quick pic and then helped Sarah clean him up...but it was a huge mess!

P.S. Spaghetti-o's stain the skin so you really have to scrub a lot with soap, so you don't end up with an orange baby!

It's pumpkin patch time!!

Today we decided to take JT to the pumpkin patch to pick out his very 1st pumpkin...last year he was only 3 months old so he didn't really get into the whole pumpkin thing, but this year he was ready for the pumpkin patch. We went to one over in Brea, they had lots of pumpkins to play with, and it was hard to decide which one he wanted. Mostly he ran around trying to pick them up and then wanting to throw them down! This very sweet little girl, maybe 3 or 4 years old came right up to JT and they gave each other a hug, she walked back to her family and JT promptly walked over to her and socked her in the belly, she cried, and Scott and Sarah apologized to the family, but they understood. But JT finally decided on a pumpkin and we got it for him, he seemed to have fun, and it was a nice little trip for us all, we hope to make this a family tradition!

Look Auntie Mel, I want this pumpkin, maybe we can push it home!!

A day at the park!

Today we decided to take a little trip to the local park and petting zoo, Parnell Park, for those of you who live around here. JT was super excited to go, and he really loved the few animals that were there at the petting zoo...they has some very cute animals and this huge tortoise that seemed to follow Sarah all around the zoo, it was strange! JT went on the swings and loved them, and then took a few trips down the baby slides, and then just basically tried to run away from us...that made us tired, so after one more quick stop back at the petting zoo, to say adios to the animals it was back home for nap time...although to tell you the truth I think we needed the nap more than he did!

GEORGE

Sarah bought JT this adorable stuffed Curious George , and he loves it! JT and George are great friends and he takes him all around with him! He even likes to have him in the highchair with him at meal times, although that's not the best idea...in any case it seems that JT has a new best buddy...and he only cost like $5 at Kohl's and they give 20% of the profit to charity so you can't beat that!

Sick.

Well, it's official...cold season is here! JT and Sarah started back to mommy and me class the other week and with all the little kids around there, JT started coming down with a cough a few days later, by Monday and Tuesday he was all sick, and a trip to the Dr's confirmed it...2 ear infections a chest congestion issue and the runny nose....lots of rest and meds were the Rx. By Thursday, Melissa was feeling the beginnig of the scratchy throat, and by Friday both Scott and Melissa were in full-blown illness mode. Scott stayed home from work on Friday, Melissa barely got out of bed, and Joe stayed away so as not to get sick, and JT was getting better...and poor Sarah, she had to take care of the baby, the house, pitiful Scott, and she was kind enough to take care of Melissa too! It was a lot for one person to undertake with no help, and to make matters worse, since the baby didn't feel well, he didn't sleep much, which meant Sarah didn't sleep much either! By the end of the weekend the worst of it had passed, the baby still has a small cough, and Scott went back to work today, and Melissa...well, she feels okay, but she clogged up her left ear while blowing her nose, and now she still can't hear out of it, and it's starting to hurt, so she's off to the Dr's office tomorrow, but other than that we're great, Joe didn't catch a thing since he stayed away...oh, and Sarah didn't get sick either...all that illness around her and she's fine, minus a few good night's rest---AMAZING!! Well, I hope this isn't the beginning of a terrible cold and flu season...The Huckeba's have had their fill, we don't want anything else! Hope the rest of you out there are feeling fine, and if you do get sick, drink lots of fluids, eat lots of soup, and get lots of rest...and if you're a mom, well, don't get sick, the rest of us can't do without you guys!!!

SLEEPOVER!! (by Melissa)

Some of you know that I teach a class at my church for high school girls, it's called Girls Only, and I love it! The class takes place on Wednesday night. The best part of this class is that it's youth group, but only for girls, hence the name of the class...regular high-school youth group meets on Tuesday nights, and it's co-ed. I love this class and it gives me a chance to get to know the girls one-on-one and to bond, and have a lot of fun, as well as be there to help them thru the high-school years which can be daunting at times. Anyhow, the Girls Only class is a part of a larger group called, Missionettes, a program for girls K-12, at our church. Well, this past Friday and Saturday all the Missionettes programs in the U.S. held sleepovers in their various districts. We belong to the CA Foothill Division and our sleepover was held @ Covina Assembly of God.
It was so great to see all these girls come together to have fun and to share in fellowship with one another. We had 66 girls in grades 3-12 participate. The theme was, Race of a Lifetime, we had a wonderful speaker Rhonda Van Beber come and speak about the educational outreach program the she's a part of in South Central L.A., and the girls all brought books and gift cards for her to get books for the outreach program. We played lots of games and ate some yummy pizza and made crafts. We had the cutest fashion show and just hung out and acted silly...it was great. I am posting a few pics from the sleepover, most of the time my camera was in my purse, so I don't have a ton of pics, but it was super fun. I forgot just how much energy you have at this age, and most of the adults were pretty wiped out the next day...I was okay, I am younger than some of the adults that were there, but they tell me that as I get older I will take longer to re-coop from this knd of thing! All in all it was a great time, and the girls were great fun..can't wait until the next one!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SARAH!!!

Yesterday was Sarah's 28th birthday!!! We are all very excited to celebrate with her. Since her birthday fell on a Saturday this year it is much easier to celebrate since most people didn't have to work. The day started out with the traditional Happy Birthday banner placed in the dining room and the many phone calls from family and friends. Then Scott, Sarah and JT went to go have a birthday lunch with her Dad, her step-mom, her Gma Vanderpool, and her Aunt Janet, and cousin, Jeff, at BJ's in Brea. Saturday nite, Scott and Sarah headed for Friday's in Brea to celebrate with a bunch of friends--good times! Sunday, still worn out from all the fun on Sat nite, we had a yummy breakfast from Timeout, and then Sarah and JT went with her mom, Kathy to go shopping for her birthday(although JT seemed to end up with the most stuff!). Then instead of the big Sunday meal in honor of her birthday, Sarah opted for a family fave--pizza and breadsticks! We also celebrated with a cheesecake, her fave, and only one candle so we wouldn't have to call the fire dept! Her birthday week, will conclude on Sunday the 21st with a family bday dinner with Scott, JT, Melissa and Joe at Elephant Bar, we couldn't get to it this weekend! Happy Birthday Sarah, hope your wishes come true!!

***We will post the bday pics from Friday's in a bit, but for now here are some shots from other bday celebrations this weekend!***

She got the new car because she was in an accident a few weeks back, luckily the only damage was to her car! She purchased a new 2008, Ford Escape, with all the bells and whistles.....congrats Tiff, we can't wait to go for a ride in it!!

September 11th...remembered

Today marks the 7th anniversary of a day that is seared into the minds of all Americans..the day when America was attacked...September 11th. 7 years ago 2 planes flew into the Twin Towers in New York, causing the towers to fall and killing 1000's , follwed by a plane crashing into the Pentagon's E-ring, causing severe damage and loss of life, as well as a plane hijacked and destined for D.C., who's passengers decided to take control and sacrifice their lives to save others, which ended in a quiet field in Pennsylvania. Today is a day that we'll never forget. So, on this day in particular we remember all those who lost their lives, especially those who gave their lives in service to others, whether service personnel or those 40 brave heroes who decided to keep that plane away from the Capitol and the White House, and to sacrifice themselves, with the parting words, "Let's Roll"! To all of the families, friends, and co-workers, we wish you peace, we pray for your continued survival and recovery, and we honor your loved ones' sacrifice, and their lives; may we never forget!Below is a link to the CNN memorial to the victims of 9/11, with a bio and pic of the victims, it's a great site, and I encourage you to take a look at it. We sometimes get caught up in our lives, and what happened on this day is pushed out of our minds, but for the families and friends of the victims it is all too real everyday, so today we honor those who passed in the most tragic attack in our country's history.

Okay, so today was JT's very 1st birthday party ever!!! It was so much fun and he seemed to really love all the attention! We had the party at Nana and Papa's, (Park and Syl) pool house and cabana. We had great weather, good company and yummy food! Thank you, to everyone who helped with the party and the prep, and also to all of you who came to share this very special day with JT, it meant so much! Our Family Update--2007-2008

Since it may have been awhile since we've had contact with some of you, we thought that we'd give a brief update on the last 16 months or so--Jan 2007-April 2008.
Jan 2007-New Year, a time of renewal and joy-1 year and 1 month since Grandma Sadie had passed.
Feb 2007-A month filled with love!
March 2007-Scott and his fiancee, Sarah find out that thebaby they are expecting is a boy!!
April 2007-Joe turned 63!! Scott and Sarah take the family up on the offer to come and live back home for a year or two, in order to save for a house!
May 2007-Mary turns 59! We began a slight remodel in order to make room for the happy family!
June 2007-Sarah has a babyshower given by Melissa. The house re-do is almost complete.
July 2007-4th of July, Sarah complains of bad cramping--braxton hicks, Scott and Sarah move in.
JULY 27TH--LITTLE JACOB THOMAS HUCKEBA IS BORN!
7.2 lbs, 21 inches long, at 1:44 pm@ Presbyterian Hospital in Whittier.
JT, is born with jaundice, but is sent home with bili lights...the next day we are told to rush to the ER his blood levels are deathly high, he is admitted to the NICU, they prepare us all for the worst! JT may not make it, he may be brain damaged, they want to do a massive double blood transfussion...they are searching for blood...10 days later, he is released, doing much better and thriving wonderfully!! God answers prayers, everyone is amazed!!
August 2007-JT comes home from the NICU!!
September 2007-Sarah turns 27. Mary begins to feel tired and weak, we begin doctor's visits to find out why!
Oct 2007-Scott turns 26. They have found some enlarged lymph nodes in Mary's abdomen, she is admitted to the hospital for tests...she is getting weaker.
Nov 2007-1st Thanksgiving with JT. Mary is still ill, but still tries to remain hopeful, it looks like some kind of cancer, but all the tests come back inconclusive! Still, little JT is the delight of his Grandma Mary's life!!2 more hospital visits, and a trip to a Pasasena Oncologist to determine if it's some kind of gynecological cancer...good news, it's not, but we are still uncertain of what type of lymphoma this may be!
Dec 2007--Back and forth to specialists...still no answer, Mary is all but bed-bound, we work tirelessly to find some explanantion for all this..we pray constantly for peace and understanding.Dec 19th, Melissa turns 3o, we celebrate with cake in bed with Mary.
Dec 21st--Today is a big day, we are to get some tests to figure out what is going on. Joe and Melissa drive with Mary to Pasadena, but while getting ready in the bathroom at the testing center, Mary passes out...the paramedics are called, she is transported across the street to Huntington Memorial Hospital...they prepare us for the worst, she has been vomiting blood in the ER. We call all the family together..we are devastated...we wait on word...they put her on a ventilator and move her to CCU...it's a strange world up there, monitors and machines...we are frightened..we stay until 1am, they tell us to go home and rest for the long day ahead tomorrow...they are going to try and extubate...this will tell us how weak or strong her body is.
Dec 22--They take out the tube she is wide awake...says she felt like Alice in Wonderland...like the Rabbit popping up out of the hole!! We are happy she is starting to stabilize...the doctors are amazed! More tests...her blood is still behaving badly, as it had all the times before...they are puzzled..calling specialists from City of Hope!
Dec 23-25-We spend the holidays at the hospital...all the family is here...Aunt Ruby flew in from Tampa...we take turns spending the night. She feels bad that she "ruined" Christmas, we tell her she didn't, we just want to be with her! More tests, they want to do a biopsy, but they must get the blood count high enough...more blood is given...
The next few days all blur together, but finally they get the blood up enough to do the biopsy...death is a real possibilty, we move forward, she wants to know what is going on inside! We brace ourselves for the surgery...they call from the OR, she is doing better than expected...no bleeding, they got the sample they need, an answer will come soon! Early the next morning Melissa and cousin Marissa are with Mary, a seizure begins...we summon for help, it stops, they get a CT, no brain bleed visible...they are concerned about the sudden seizure...everyone rushed to the hospital about 4 am.
We are told they can't do anything else, since they still don't know what's going on, and even if they did know she is too weak for treatment, and the kidneys have begun to go...we have a decision, lots of tests and pain and suffering, or to let God take care of her..we opt for peace and no pain..she hates pain! She is in and out of it...we are all there, we talk to her and sing to her...they move us out of CCU, to the hospice wing... it's a round the clock vigil, they give her meds for pain, she has none, and she is just peacefully sleeping....it take days...we 2nd guess our aproach, it's just our pain talking though, we know that this is the best for her, and it's what she would have wanted...we wait...
New Year's Eve 2007- we spend it in the hospice wing, she is sleeping, I think to myself about how much she loves the Rose Parade...we are a mere 2 blocks from the parade site...she hangs on...we take turns getting a few hours of sleep...
Jan 1st 2008--At 5:51 am, we are there when Mary leaves this world and enters into the presence of God...I imagine Jesus saying to her, Well done, thou good and faithful servant, enter now in to the joy of the Lord!! We are inconsolable...our angel here on Earth has left us and we are lost...but we have hope in Jesus!! We take care of all the hospital stuff and leave the hospital...there is much to do...we drive past the parade route...I think to myself, she has the best seat in the house now!
Jan 2008--We have a rosary for Mary, and the funeral the next day...it was raining...but stopped that morning to give us beautiful sunshine, and a rainbow.....Mary is buried at Rose Hills in Whittier, Ca.
Jan 2008- The rest of Januray finds us all trying to come to terms with all of this, Joe has taken time off work, Sarah has resigned from work to be a full-time stay-at-home mom, Mary was going to care for JT, but that was not to be...Scott has gone back to work, but is still terribly sad...Melissa, who left her full-time job, to get a part-time job in order to help care for Mary, is beside herself with grief...only the love and smiles of her baby nephew fill the void. Mary's mom and family try to find a way to come to terms with all of this...we lean on God for support and comfort.
Feb 2008-Scott leaves Downey Savings after 7 years...while between jobs he stays at home with Sarah and JT , the family bonds!!
March 2008--Scott begins a job with Interbusiness bank, an international bank, he work in Alhambra.
April 2008--Joe turns 64!! We are spending our time bonding as a family and watching little JT grow and change each day!!
That's the sum up, until now...lots has happened, but our faith in God and family has sustained us along this weary road.
We hope that you will continue to check in with us and see where this year 2008 leads us!!
Below you will find some pictures to show you a few highlights of the past year!!
